DESCRIPTION:
White 1995 Solectria Geo Metro electric conversion. Runs fine but needs 13 12V deep discharge batteries. Has 2 120V chargers, front (5 batteries) and rear (8 batteries)desulfators, new brakes, front boots, low mileage Michelin tires. All electrical components work correctly but the in-dash voltmeter recently stopped working--may be a loose connection. It is a north east coast car so the rocker panels are rusted. The headliner is loose and the passenger door lock has not worked since I bought the car in 2006. The driver side window does not close perfectly. I opened the panel and the window guide was bent. I straightened it out but not perfectly. The battery boxes are clean. Front and rear battery heaters work. Battery temperature monitors and battery heater controls work. All battery cables included. Kerosene heater for winter works well. Kerosene tank is OK but plastic heater fluid bottle has a crack near mount. It may need to be replaced sometime. There is a preheater controller but no heater. The car runs well. Unfortunately during Sandy I used the car battery to run my house and damaged a number of the batteries. I am too busy to get it back running. It was a great commuter car as I was able to charge it at work and at home from a standard 120V outlet. It is being sold as is, where is. You would need to pick it up. Question: how far did it travel on one charge from the 12 batteries? Answer: It has13 batteries 8 rear/5 front. I have not had new batteries in it but it was rated for 40 aH with new batteries by Solectria. While I had it, its maximum range was 32 aH ~ 32miles at 30mph in street traffic with Deka Dominator 87 aH batteries. I checked out its top speed and it reached ~55mph on level ground but certainly would not have nearly that range. It is a good, relatively short range commuter since it will charge from a 15A 120V standard outlet. The car is in good running condition but not pretty, as you could expect for a 19 year old car. The rocker panels are rusted but the rest of the body looks about like the photo. Everything except the in-dash V meter works but that is probably a loose connection. For maintenance all it needs is to change the automatic transmission fluid once/year. I had it registered in NY and it passed inspection ever year. If you are local, feel free to come and look at it. Question: Whats the range with good batteries on these? Answer: Solectria rated it at 40aH with good batteries. When the battery voltage drops below about 135V the car goes into limp-home mode--ie it runs slowly but keeps going. When I got the car it ran about 32aH before hitting limp-home on 87aH Deka Dominators. At ~30mph in street traffic it ran ~1 mile/aH on level ground. I would assume that with new batteries (like the Deka Dominators) it will do at least 40 miles. The battery boxes will take a slightly bigger Deka Dominator so you could extend the range a bit. It has 3 modes-- economy, regular and power. On the economy mode the acceleration is anemic but you get max range On regular mode it is quite acceptable. You can switch to power mode once the car is moving and it accelerates quite briskly. It charges from a 15A 120V standard circuit so it can be charged anywhere you can get to an outlet.
